Blog EntryNo Ice with that Please!Feb 22, '08 10:58 PM
for everyone

According to the news reports this winter has been fairly normal in regards to the temperatures, with January actually being a bit warmer than what is considered normal... they went on to say that people won't talk about that because its the bad weather that sticks out in our heads... gee, I wonder why that is?   Hmmm, perhaps that nasty ice storm over a year ago sort of placed some fear in our hearts and made us resent any thing resembling an ice crystal?   Or perhaps its the repeated cancellation of school because of icy roads?  Or perhaps its the struggles we go through to break into our cars just to warm them up enough to scrape off the ice decorating the windows?    I'm officially sick of winter and I actually used to be a strong advocate for Winter time.

So yesterday I woke up expecting frozen roads and ice on my car because the news told me that nasty storm was supposed to hit sometime in the early morning hours while I was still sleeping.  Well, it was a little late.  The rain started pouring down around 6:15 in the morning and I wasn't worried because I knew I'd be leaving for work within an hour.  When I let the dog back in at 6:30, I was worried.   The innocent rain was rapidly changing into ice and I could see a very fine sheen of ice blanketing my car.  After I pried my door open I let the car run for fifteen minutes because I had no desire to try and scrape windows in the freezing rain.  I started for work and my brother called me to tell me that some genius had flipped his car on the road that I was already driving down.  I didn't see the car but I did see a police car near a spot that had distinct tire tracks leading right over the edge of a deep ditch.  I got on the highway and by the time I hit the first exit after Sarcoxie a really bad feeling was creeping over me so I pulled off at the exit and called work.  There was no way I was going all the way into Joplin, I've learned to trust these bad feelings!  On my way back to Sarcoxie I saw a State Trooper being pulled out of a ditch by a tow truck and I felt even less assured than I had been when I turned around.   I ended up spending my entire work day at the branch near home so I am happy to report that I did not join the "spinning out of control" party.

Sarcoxie called off school again today.  I do not know why.  I think my son will be in school until July at the rate in which they keep cancelling classes.  He has band competitions in Pittsburgh tomorrow and they haven't cancelled that so it makes me wonder who exactly is in charge of closing the school here.  Our principal put in his notice so maybe its him and he's just wanting some extra days off because he is suffering from Short Term Syndrome, or maybe its the guy in charge of the bus routes, I think he would call off school if a squirrel spit on the road and it froze.

I have to work tomorrow because my refrigerator keeps mysteriously losing its contents... it always seems to happen when school gets cancelled... coincidence?
